Barnaby Bear set off from Cornwall, in the southwest of the Uk for Africa. Here
he is with Mrs Grantham at home in Cornwall.
Cornwall is a long way from Africa. Barnaby Bear's journey took longer than a day!
How do you think Barnaby Bear travelled to Africa?
He travelled most of the way on an aeroplane.
Barnaby Bear went by car from Cornwall to Plymouth in Devon, to catch a bus up to Heathrow Airport in London.
When he got to the airport, he had so much luggage that he had to get a trolley! Fortunately he was able to have a ride, because he got someone to push it for him.
He had to check in, and show the lady at the
desk his ticket and pasport. This is where he left his suitcases.
After he had checked in, there was a little time before the aeroplane departed, so Barnaby Bear decided to explore the airport a little.
| Barnaby Bear was hungry, so he decided to get something to eat first. He really enjoyed meeting his friendly waitress in the cafe. | As there was still plenty of time, Barnaby Bear played some games on a handy PlayStation! |
| He also met some very interesting people at the airport. What job do you think these people do? | Next Barnaby Bear decided to have a quick game of hide and seek. He wondered if there would be trees like this in Uganda. |
| Soon into his game, Barnaby Bear realised that he was lost! Fortunately he met these very helpful policemen. Their job is to make sure that every one in the airport is safe. They soon helped Barnaby Bear to find his friends again. | Getting lost was very thirsty work, so Barnaby Bear stopped at another cafe for a quick drink. |
At last it was departure time, so Barnaby Bear made his way to the aeroplane.
The air hostess showed him where his seat was, and made sure he had everything he needed.
Barnaby Bear was very lucky - the hostess had heard of him, and managed to get Barnaby Bear a visit to the aeroplane's cockpit! Here is Barnaby Bear in the cockpit with the pilot and co-pilot.

At last the plane took off. Barnaby Bear was very excited! He looked out of the
window as he took off.
Barnaby Bear really enjoyed taking some aerial photographs. It was fun to see the land from this height. Do you recognise any of these views?
| Barnaby Bear flew over London... | |
| ...and saw the River Thames from above. | |
| Barnaby Bear thought it was really exciting to see clouds from above! | |
| It took 10 hours to land at Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, so he could change planes. Barnaby Bear thought Dubai looked very pretty from the air at night. | |
| Dubai airport was very pretty, and very busy. Even in the dark it was as hot as the UK is in the middle of summer! | Barnaby Bear had to wait for 6 hours in this airport. As he had to change aeroplanes, he was a little worried, but he managed to get the right plane in the end! |
As he took off again, Barnaby Bear had a much better view of Dubai. He couldn't see too clearly though, because it was very hot and there was lots of sand blowing around. Dubai is a city built in the middle of a desert.
At last, Barnaby Bear was in the air again. He could see the roads, buildings and river from high up. Can you see Dubai Creek? |
|
| Soon he was flying high above the fluffy clouds. | |
| He also flew over rocky mountains... | |
| rivers... | |
| ...and lakes. | |
| Barnaby Bear's aeroplane had to land one more time before he landed in Uganda. | |
| This time he was much closer to his destination though - he was in Kenya. | |
| The plane landed in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. Kenya is a country in Africa, just to the east of Uganda. |
At long last, after more than a day's travelling, Barnaby Bear could see his destination. Can you see the large patch of water in the photograph? Barnaby Bear thought it looked like an ocean, but really, it was Lake Victoria. Click on the water to learn more about the lake.
The aeroplane landed in Entebbe, a large town in southern Uganda. He couldn't wait to get off the plane and stretch his furry little legs!
