Useful resources
Listed below are my resources that might be useful to teachers about to teach the
QCA unit on Barnaby Bear, or any other unit of geography. Please feel free to download and alter or use
them if they will be of help.

- Blank risk assessment form - for school trips and other activities
tht take place within your school grounds. If your school has one of these, you should stick to your school's
format. If you use this one, you should use your LEA's risk calculation method.
- Permission letter photos on your own Barnaby Bear website -
please note, this letter is adapted from the original, created by
College of St Mark and St John, so I do not hold the
any copyright on this.
This contains useful ideas for what parents could do with the bear, to get the most geography possible out
of the trip.
- Travel the river board game with
chance cards - game developed to help teach the reading of grid references, alongside some important
concepts about rivers (including erosion, pollution and currents).
- My long term plans for geography - an attempt at planning for Reception
through to Year 6. Loosely based on existing QCA units, so could be a non-threatening way for someone to
begin re-writing their school geography plans
- Water activities and ways that a watery or
river theme can be incorporated into a whole school curriculum. Mainly science and geography, but some
other cross-curricular links thrown in. Shows how the key concepts for rivers (Year 6) can be progressively
taught throughout the school. With National Curriculum justification

Great source if you need to buy blank CDs or DVDs in bulk for your class / school.
