The Bronze Age was a very long time ago, around 1500BC. How long ago do you think that was? Back then there were many more people living on the moor. They lived in round houses, or hut circles.

In some places hut circles were built from wattle and daub. 'Wattle' (sticks from willow trees) were 'daubed' with a mixture of clay or mud, horse poo, straw and water. A smelly job, but it kept the wind out of the houses! |
This wattle and daub fence was built by year 1 and 2 children from St Martin's CE VA School, Liskeard
| On Bodmin Moor they were built from stone called granite. Why do you think they built houses from different materials? | ![]() |
The St Martin's School children also built this stone wall, the same way as the Bronze age settlers would have built their homes.

Here are the remains of a hut circle at the foot of Brown Gelly. You can still see some of the stones it was built with. |
| This is a much bigger hut circle. No one would build here now because the ground is too boggy. Can you see the marsh grass? This site is also protected. No one is allowed to move the stones. | ![]() |
